Team Ferrofoot is an award-winning student group developing a flexible ankle-foot orthotic (AFO) to assist individuals with multiple sclerosis and foot drop. Working closely with a primary user, we designed an AFO using magnetorheological (MR) fluid, which increases viscosity under a magnetic field, adjusting resistance to enable more natural walking.
PROCESS WORK:
A magnetorheological (MR) fluid is a substance known for its excellent magnetic properties. We leveraged this property, specifically its ability to change from solid to liquid when subjected to a magnetic field, to modify the viscosity and braking power of our device.
