Team FerroFoot:

Team Ferrofoot is an award-winning group of students working to help those with multiple sclerosis and foot drop. As a group, we developed a flexible ankle foot orthotic (AFO) using magnetorheological fluid (MR fluid), a smart fluid that increases viscosity when subjected to a magnetic field. Changing the brake's resistance with this fluid creates a flexible AFO that allows users to walk normally again.
PROCESS WORK:
A magnetorheological (MR) fluid is a substance known for its excellent magnetic properties. We leveraged this property, specifically its ability to change from solid to liquid when subjected to a magnetic field, to modify the viscosity and braking power of our device.
